Chesterfield to Host NCAA Triathlon Cup Event in September

Chesterfield County will host one of only seven NCAA Triathlon Cup events in the US on September 29, 2024.

Triathlon became an emerging NCAA sport for women in 2014 and was granted full NCAA status when Cal Poly Humbolt became the 40th school to add varsity women’s triathlon in 2022.

USA Triathlon, the sport’s governing body, has been actively seeking out race directors who understand the NCAA model to host events and recently local race director and coach, Michael Harlow, was selected.

Harlow is the founder and director of Live Red Foundation which produces multisport events to provide the funding for Live Red’s free fitness programs that teach life skills to over 9,000 children annually in Richmond’s lowest-opportunity neighborhoods.  Michael is also a local triathlon coach and founder of Endorphin Fitness.

Michael recently stated, “It is an honor to host an NCAA race and help push the sport of triathlon further towards its full potential.  We have a perfect venue in Robious Landing Park to showcase not only triathlon but the beautiful Chesterfield.”

The NCAA event will be part of Live Red Foundation’s Robious Landing Triathlon and utilize an exciting multi-lap draft-legal format.  There are also beginner-friendly races for kids and adults as part of the Robious Landing Triathlon.
